A few weeks ago the Game Of Thrones finale aired and like all great TV shows its end split the opinions of it’s fans. For me personally, the second the episode finished I felt a little deflated – though that could be due to the fact one of my favourite TV shows had just come to it’s end. There’s no denying that the effort that has gone into the finale season is phenomenal. The cinematography, the costuming, the make up, the visual effects, the stunt work, THE MUSIC, just wow. The more I mulled it over the more I’ve come to terms that it was a good ending. Yes it was potentially slightly rushed but I think the end was in-keeping with Martin’s vision. At the end of the day we’ll just have to accept it because the likelihood of Martin publishing the final two books grows smaller by the day.
Despite everything, there’s no denying that Game Of Thrones has been one of the greatest shows to grace our screens in the past decade and I’m so proud to say that the main hub for it all was where I’m from – Northern Ireland. Since getting into the show as a family we’ve loved visiting the Game Of Thrones offerings around Northern Ireland including the Game Of Thrones Tapestry at the Ulster Museum and Winterfell Festival at Castle Ward. When we heard that the Game Of Thrones Touring Exhibition was starting it’s journey in Belfast we knew we had to go and see it. So we booked our tickets for Wednesday 5th June 2019 at 10:15am.
So what is the Game of Thrones Touring Exhibition?
The exhibition gives fans a chance for an up-close and personal look at authentic props, costumes and set decorations from the show. It’s a mixture of sets showcasing the work that has gone into creating the world of Westeros interspersed with facts about the show. There are also some unique photo opportunities including the chance to sit on the Iron Thrones.
The exhibit is currently on display at the Titanic Exhibition Centre in Belfast until the 1st September 2019. It’s open 9am-8pm Monday to Sunday and costs £17.50 per adult. You can also purchase an audio guide for £5 if you’re interested in learning additional facts about the costumes/sets right from those who were involved in it.
Pro Tip: We spoke to one of the guides whilst there and she said the best time to come is during the morning before the tour groups & cruise ships have a chance to land in.
We really enjoyed walking around the exhibition and learning all about the work that went into creating the Game Of Thrones world. The exhibit wasn’t as big as we were expecting but the content within it was so well laid out and we loved the interactive activities along the way. If you’re a Game Of Thrones fan and looking for something to do for an hour or two over the summer I would highly recommend coming to see the exhibit.
