Here was our basic itinerary for the day:
- Morning Park: Animal Kingdom for an 8am breakfast reservation at Tusker House
- Evening Park: Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party! (MNSSHP)
- Fastpasses: Meet Mickey & Minnie (10:20-11:20), Flight Of Passage (11:20-12:20), Kali River Rapids (12:35-13:35)
Day 8 – Tuesday 11th September 2018
We left Port Orleans french quarter around 7:30am to head to Animal Kingdom for our 8am reservation at Tusker House (African inspired character dining with safari Donald, Mickey, Daisy & Goofy). We made it to the entrance of Animal Kingdom for 7:45am and joined the queue of guests for breakfast reservations, and yes there were already guests there waiting for park opening at 9am. Unlike Magic Kingdom we were not actually let into Animal Kingdom until around 7:55am and everyone was pretty much heading to the same place, however I did mange to grab a picture of the Tree Of Life without anyone in it. Once we got to the Africa bridge we joined a queue where we had to show proof of our reservation/have our names checked to allow us to progress further. Pro Tip: If you want to get through the stage quickly bring your reservation up on the app instead of providing your name.
Once at Tusker House one member of our party checked us in whilst the others waited. I spent the time looking at all the little details outside the restaurant and taking some pictures of an empty AK. It took around 10 minutes before our greeter came and got us, she had a little chat with us about where we were from as we walked towards the entrance of the restaurant and then our Magical Moment happened. For those who don’t know a Magical Moment is when a cast member provides a random spur of the moment act of kindness. Our magical moment was that we were chosen to be the family of the day at Tusker House, so we got to meet Donald, Daisy, Goofy & Mickey all together before they entered the restaurant to begin meeting other guests. It was such a magical whirlwind and I think I probably thanked the cast members around 100 times but I just couldn’t believe it was happening. Still to this day I cannot believe that this has happened and I am so eternally thankful to the cast members who made our holiday with this bit of magic.
After our magical moment we were seated in the very colourful and cool looking Tusker House. The buffet is in a central room and all of the seats are off in separate rooms from the central buffet. The food at Tusker House is African inspired, but Disney. So obviously there are your classic Mickey waffles, fruit, pastries (croissants etc), sausages but there are also some less traditional Disney buffet offerings including carved ham, curry, little burger type things and frittatas. They also serve jungle juice which is delish. Tusker House ended up being my second favourite meal of our trip.
After our breakfast we headed out to Pandora – it’s worth noting we tried to head down the pathway to enter Pandora from the Africa side and it wasn’t open yet so we ended up having to walk back towards the tree of life to get into Pandora. We joined the queue for Na’vi River Journey which had a half an hour wait time (at around 9:15am), but we didn’t mind as we were still buzzing from our magical moment earlier that day. After stopping by the shaman we wondered at the floating Mountains then headed off to meet Mickey & Minnie in their safari gear. I usually try to fastpass this once during our holiday as it’s the only place in Walt Disney World you can meet Mickey & Minnie together (or it was until they added the new meet & greet in Town Square for the celebration). Then we headed into Dinoland as I really wanted to meet Chip & Dale as chipmunkosaurs’ and yes they were as cute as you can imagine. Next it was almost time for our Flight of Passage Fastpass so we started to head back to Pandora. On the way we passed Pocahontas’ meet which had a very short queue (possibly because it’s kind of hidden, possibly because there was no Photopass photographer, who knows?) so we decided to go say Wingapo to her.
It was an extremely hot day and we still had a while to kill before we could ride FOP so we decided to go to Satuli Canteen to cool off but also so my sister could try the cheesecake as that was on her trip bucketlist. I headed to Pongu Pongu and picked my mum and me up a Night Blossom – it tasted like a twister and was so refreshing in the heat. After a quick cool off we grabbed some photos at the Moss Wall then went to fly on our banshees which once again was amazing. We still had a fastpass for Kali River Rapids however due to the heat I decided to opt our of this one – I get very bad painful headaches and in the past I’ve gotten them from getting soaked on a water ride and then the water evaporating off in the sun. My mum and sister also opted out but mostly because they just wanted to head back to the hotel and chill before our late night at MNSSHP.
