Day 2 – Orlando Trip Report, September 2018

Day 2 - Trip Report Title

Here was our basic itinerary for the day:

  • Morning Park: Epcot with a quick service (QS) lunch
  • Fastpasses: Frozen (10:15-11:15), Figment (11:25-12:25) & Spaceship Earth (13:15-14:15)
  • Evening Park: Hollywood Studios for Fantasmic (booked as 4th Fastpass)
  • Dining Reservations: Sci-Fi Diner 18:25 (Table Service)

Day 2 – Wednesday 5th September 2018

We started our morning getting ready in the room and then heading to the food court to grab some croissants for breakfast – we used 3 snack credits from our dining plan for breakfast. Then we headed off to Epcot in the car for park opening arriving at the foot of our Grand and Miraculous Spaceship Earth around 8:45am, just in time for rope drop.

We picked up our maps, including our Food & Wine festival guide and then headed off to Test Track to design our own car. It took around 10 minutes to get to the design suit and around 25 minutes to get through the ride. We then headed over to the Land Pavilion to ride Soarin’ and Living With The Land for the first time (first bucketlist item checked off). By this stage it was around 10:30 and our first fastpass was active so we headed over to the World Showcase to ride Frozen and see Anna & Elsa. Next we headed over to Mexico to pay a visit to the three caballeros and pick up our World Showcase Suitcase – the Duffy Bear replacement. At each pavilion you can collect a fact card about the country along with a sticker to put in a little zip-lock suitcase – quite a cute (and free) souvenir for your holiday.

After we tried to use our second fastpass however Figment was down so we received a multiple experience pass – we opted to use it for Spaceship Earth and then cancel our third Epcot fastpass and book a fastpass for Fantasmic instead. On our way to Spaceship Earth we decided to stop by the Light Lab and get our first festival snack. I wanted to try the Phosphorescent Phlight, mostly becasue it came in the cool conical flask, unfortunately they changed it so it was three separate drinks: one was yummy, one was alright and one was not so great if I’m honest (but it was alright because we used a snack credit for it – major plus of the dining plan).

Our post Light Lab experience involved a trip to thank the phoneticians, some bubblegum wall photos (found at the exit of Spaceship Earth) followed by lunch at Electric Umbrella. After lunch we grabbed some photopass pictures at the front of the park before heading back for some begneits at our resort (10/10 would recommend- food post coming soon!) and to spend some time recharging before our evening antics.

We headed back out to Hollywood Studios around 5pm and got a nice little drive by of Star Wars Land. Upon arrival we headed over to Star Tours as it only had a 10 minute wait posted – however it was basically a walk on yay! Next we headed over to Toy Story Land to have a little wander around it and take some pictures – the land itself is so cute however it does get very saturated with people in certain areas and there’s not a lot of shade, however I did enjoy a lot of the little details the imagineers had put throughout the land.

Pixar Ball

We checked into Sci-Fi diner around 6:10pm and ended up being called for our reservation around 6:30pm. The theming inside the diner is so cool although a little dark – my mum had to use her phone light to read the menu. Our server was lovely and very informative after asking if it was our first time dining there (which it was), I opted to have the Drive-In BBQ burger and fries and the S’mores Brownie for dessert. Although I enjoyed the experience the food was not one of my favourites from the trip. After our meal we headed straight over to our Fantasmic Fastpass – the stadium was already quite busy but we ended up with some good seats and having not seen Fantasmic on our last trip I was so excited to see it and it did not disappoint. After Fantasmic we headed back to the hotel to refill our mugs and relax in our room after a great first day in the parks.

Day three includes so many firsts: Dining at Be Our Guest, watching Festival of Fantasy and using Disney transport for the first time ever! So be sure to check back in to hear all about it. Have you ever dined at Sci-Fi diner before? Do you have a favourite nighttime spectacular? I’d love to hear your thoughts so please comment them down below. Until next time…
