I’m here today to share with you 10 things you can do whilst social distancing – most of which are going to be free!
Exercise
I mentioned before that your health is your wealth and now is as good a time as any to move. Not only will it help your physical health but it will greatly help your mental health. If you’re anything like me this whole pandemic is probably really testing your anxiety – the uncertainty and panic of others is what worries me the most. Due to this, I’m trying to keep my routine as similar as possible – so that means every morning between 9:30-10:30 I’m going to do some kind of exercise.
Now we don’t need a gym or any kind of fancy equipment to get a good workout. Your exercise could be dancing to the Frozen 2 soundtrack, going for a walk, skipping in the garden, following a Yoga video on Youtube – just something to get you moving!
PS: if you have kids and are currently attempting some form of home schooling Joe Wicks AKA The Body Coach is doing a 9:30 am PE lesson Mon-Fri on his youtube.
Get Outside
Let’s face it, if we’re social distancing correctly chances are we’re spending the majority of our day in our homes. As much as we love our little houses we’ll go stark crazy without some time outside.
My aim is to get outside for at least 15 minutes every day. This could be doing my WOD (work out of the day for my non-crossfit friends), getting a walk, playing with my dog or just sitting soaking up some vitamin D.
Read
So I won’t lie, I’m not the biggest reader. It’s not that I don’t enjoy it but it’s just not something I gravitate towards. If I’ve a spare 20 minutes I just prefer to play a simple game or watch some youtube or something where I can switch off and not have to concentrate.
However given that I’m not currently exercising my brain as much as I would in my normal life I’m planning to spend a bit more time getting engrossed in a book – starting with Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine.
Bake
I LOVE baking, always have. I used to make packet cupcakes and pretend I had my own baking show when I was younger. Whilst we’re social distancing I’m going to use the time to bake some new things and some things I haven’t made in a while like fairy cakes!
My two favourite places to find free online recipes are Jane’s Patisserie (here smores cookie bars will change your life) and Cupcake Jemma (her lemon drizzle is the best).
Get Crafty
So far I’ve done a week of social distancing and here’s some of the art projects I’ve gotten up to:
- Finally making a start on my Disneyland Paris 25th anniversary super large colouring map
- Made my Disney gate metal earth that I got on my last trip in 2018
- Learnt to draw Mickey Mouse (badly) following this tutorial
Get Organised
It’s the perfect opportunity for a spring clean! Have a look through your wardrobe and see if there’s anything you haven’t worn that could be donated. Clear out your make up and clean your brushes. Just give your living area a good old deep clean.
Binge Watch a Series or an Old Favourite
I had kind of started this before social distancing started but the whole situation has definitely escalated my binge watching. So far I’ve made it to season 7 of The Big Bang Theory and season 19 of America’s Next Top Model. Next I’m planning on watching both seasons of Killing Eve and might even be persuaded to put myself through Pretty Little Liars again.
Game
Either electronically or crack out the board games that may only see the light of day in that period between Christmas and New Year. I invested in the Animal Crossings New Horizon game and switch console and honestly it was a great decision. On Saturday I spent most of the day playing the game and it was the first afternoon I didn’t overthink about all the coronavirus craziness.
Equally in our house we love a board game. We’re particularly big fans of Monopoly and Uno and have recently invested in Exploding Kittens which I can quickly see becoming a new favourite too.
Socialise
Spend time catching up with your friends and family. Put a Facetime date in your diary the way you would a coffee date. Remember everyone is going through the same thing at the minute and if you’re having a hard time it’s likely someone else might be too. Check in with your people even if it’s just to say you’re thinking about them.
Get Your Disney On
Tuesday 24th March sees the release of Disney + in the UK. To say I’m excited is an understatement. I have my list of new things to watch but also a list of old things I’d like to rewatch. Charlotte Ruff shared a template so I’ve popped my list and the blank list below for you to share your own!
